Talkable uses traffic sources to be able to track traffic to any of your referral landing pages that come from different sources, such as emails or social posts. This is only related to the landing page(s) you may have through Talkable, not other referral placements such as a floating widget or post-purchase campaign.

A traffic source added correctly to your link would look like this: www.yoursitename.com/share?traffic_source=site_header

Any traffic that arrives on your landing page without the bolded parameter of the URL above will be shown as “unknown” in Talkable reports. It’s important to note that this doesn’t impact the users' experience and they can easily share when there is no traffic source added to the link, however, we recommend tagging all links or CTAs you have to your landing page from your website, from emails, or social media with different traffic sources, so you can see how your promotion efforts compare to each other. Here is a list of recommended traffic sources.

Talkable’s traffic sources are similar to Google’s UTM parameters, and if you already use UTM parameters you can use both at the same time.

In that case, your link would look like this: www.yoursitename.com/share?traffic_source=site_header&utm_source=...

Once you’ve added traffic sources to all the links or CTAs you have leading to your landing page, you might still see some traffic coming from ‘unknown’. This could be because customers can find your link via Google search or a customer who has copied their referral link and added it to a blog post, for example. You can often get an idea of where traffic to a specific URL on your site comes from via Google Analytics, so if you do use GA, check there. You can also give Talkable Viewer Access to your Google Analytics account and we can help you investigate where the traffic could be coming from.

How can we find them in Talkable reports?

  1. Go to Metrics

  2. Select a needed date range

  3. Tick Traffic sources right below it and Impressions further down below in the metrics

  1. You’ll see all traffic sources that you have with the # of impressions that came from those

    5. Tick Campaigns under the date range section if you want to identify what campaigns are associated with found traffic sources
